Vehicle Description

The Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 was introduced in 1966 as the successor to the 350 GT, marking a significant evolution in the Italian marque’s early lineup. Designed as a luxurious grand tourer, it combined high performance with refined comfort, catering to discerning enthusiasts who sought both speed and practicality.

At its heart, the 400 GT 2+2 was powered by a 3.9-liter V12 engine, an evolution of the 3.5-liter unit from the 350 GT. This sophisticated powerplant, engineered by Giacomo Alfieri, produced 320 horsepower, allowing the car to reach a top speed of approximately 250 km/h (155 mph). Paired with a five-speed manual transmission developed in-house by Lamborghini, the drivetrain offered smooth power delivery and engaging driving dynamics.

Styled by Carrozzeria Touring, the 400 GT 2+2 featured elegant proportions and subtle refinements over its predecessor. Unlike the earlier 350 GT, it boasted a revised roofline and extended bodywork to accommodate a rear seating area, making it a true four-seater. The interior was meticulously crafted, with hand-stitched leather upholstery, premium materials, and a well-appointed dashboard that emphasized both comfort and driver engagement.

Produced between 1966 and 1968, only 224 units of the 400 GT 2+2 were built, making it a rare and highly sought-after classic. It played a crucial role in establishing Lamborghini’s reputation as a serious contender in the luxury grand touring segment, bridging the gap between the brand’s early models and later icons like the Islero and Espada.

Today, the Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 remains a prized collector’s piece, celebrated for its combination of timeless design, mechanical excellence, and historical significance within the Lamborghini lineage.
