Vehicle Description
1956 Jaguar XK 140 SE Drophead Coupe
Let's take a brief trip back to the London Motor Show of 1954. Jaguar Cars proudly unveiled their latest flagship model, the XK140. This new iteration was an enhanced and modernized version of the previously successful Jaguar XK120. While maintaining all the capabilities of its predecessor, the XK140 boasted even greater comfort for its passengers.
Regarding its engine specifications, the XK140 retained the 3.4L 6-cylinder engine from its predecessor, albeit with a standard output of 190 horsepower. However, the SE version, featuring a C-Type cylinder head, delivered a whopping 210 horsepower to propel the rear wheels. This ensured that the XK140 reclaimed the prestigious title of the 'Fastest production car of its time', following again in the footsteps of its predecessor, the XK120.
Enhancements were made to the suspension, steering, and braking systems, while interior space received an increase, leading to improved seating positions for both driver and passenger.
At Marreyt Classic Cars, we've had the privilege of showcasing several exemplary models from Jaguar's top-tier lineup of the 1950s. Each one has stood out in its own right, characterized by the utmost quality. This exquisite XK140 Drophead Coupe is no different, embodying the timeless elegance and excellence synonymous with Jaguar craftsmanship.
Following its restoration, the car was finished in a sophisticated and captivating combination of Jaguar Maroon red paint, paired elegantly with a fawn leather interior. An enqine equipped with sought-after SU H8 Sand Cast carburettors. Additionally, a series of thoughtful upgrades were implemented, perfectly complementing this ‘Special Equipment’ XK140.
- C-Type Cylinder head (increases power from 190hp to 210hp)
- 5-speed gearbox
- Electrically assisted power steering
- Electronic ignition
- Front disc brakes + Koni shock absorbers
- Electric cooling fan
In essence, this XK strikes a harmonious balance between originality and strategic upgrades, transforming it into a sporty yet comfortable vehicle ideal for leisurely Sunday drives or spirited participation in challenging regularity rallies.
