Wir präsentiren den Fiat Dino Spider 2.0 - Mitte der 60er Jahre brauchte Ferrari dringend die Zulassung für einen neuen Motor, der in den Einsitzer Dino 166 der Formel 2 eingebaut werden sollte: Es handelte sich um einen 2-Liter-V6, der in kürzester Zeit mit einer Stückzahl von 500 Exemplaren produziert werden musste. Dies führte zu einer Vereinbarung zwischen dem Autobauer aus Maranello und dem Lingotto, die die Geburtsstunde des Fiat Dino einläutete.
Der besondere Name des Fahrzeugs geht auf eine echte Familiengeschichte zurück: Dino ist die Koseform von Alfredo (Alfredino), dem Namen des Sohnes von Enzo Ferrari, der aktiv an der Planung des V6-Motors mitgewirkt hatte, aber viel zu früh verstarb. Ferrari entschloss sich also, das Triebwerk und alle Modelle, die es benutzen würden, „Dino” zu nennen.
Um das vom internationalen Reglement der FIA für die Formel 2 verlangte Produktionsvolumen zu erreichen, hatte Ferrari den V6 bereits für ein echtes Straßenfahrzeug bestimmt: es war der Dino 206 GT, eine Berlinetta mit zentralem Motor, entworfen von Aldo Brovarone für Pininfarina. Das neue Coupé ging 1968 in die Produktion, aber mehr noch als die Kosten für die Herstellung der Fahrzeuge von Maranello hätte der Zeitaufwand die Zulassung zu sehr verzögert. Stattdessen konnte durch den Bau eines relativ wirtschaftlichen und vor allem deutlich schneller produzierbaren Fiat-Fahrzeugs die für die Zulassung des Motors notwendige Mindestzahl von 500 Einheiten schneller erreicht werden.
Die technische Abteilung von Fiat entwarf auf der Basis des ausgeklügelten Ferrari-Motors ein konventionell strukturiertes Auto mit Vordermotor, 5-Gang-Handschaltung, Heckantrieb mit Selbstsperrdifferentialgetriebe, Vorderachse mit Einzelradaufhängungen, Hinterachse mit starrer Achsbrücke und Scheibenbremsen an den vier Rädern mit Servobremse. Mit der Karosserie wurde Pininfarina betraut, der den auf dem Turiner Autosalon 1966 präsentierten Spider entwarf.

We present the Fiat Dino Spider 2.0 - In the mid-60s, Ferrari urgently needed approval for a new engine intended for the Formula 2 single-seater Dino 166. It was a 2-liter V6 that had to be produced in a short time with a quantity of 500 units. This led to an agreement between the Maranello-based automaker and Lingotto, marking the birth of the Fiat Dino.
The vehicle's special name has a genuine family story: "Dino" is the affectionate form of Alfredo (Alfredino), the name of Enzo Ferrari's son who played an active role in planning the V6 engine but sadly passed away too soon. Ferrari decided to name the engine and all models using it "Dino" in his honor.
To meet the FIA's Formula 2 regulations for production volume, Ferrari had already designated the V6 for a real road vehicle: the Dino 206 GT, a Berlinetta with a central engine designed by Aldo Brovarone for Pininfarina. Although production of the new coupe began in 1968, the time required for approval would have caused significant delays, surpassing the manufacturing costs as a concern. Instead, the construction of a relatively economical and notably faster producible Fiat vehicle expedited the necessary minimum of 500 units for engine approval.
Fiat's technical department designed a conventionally structured car based on the sophisticated Ferrari engine, featuring a front engine, 5-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential, front axle with independent suspension, rear axle with a rigid axle bridge, and disc brakes on all four wheels with power assistance. Pininfarina was entrusted with the body design, having previously designed the Spider presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1966.
