Vehicle Description

  • One of one Koenig masterpiece
  • 653 HP twin-turbo flat-12 engine
  • Comes with Koenig certificate and all documentation

In the world of classic Ferrari tuning, few names carry as much weight as Koenig-Specials. Founded by former racing driver Willy Koenig, the company became infamous in the 1980s for taking Maranello’s most elegant creations and giving them a more aggressive, more powerful and often more outrageous personality. With a passion for speed and a healthy disregard for convention, Koenig built machines that were faster than the factory ever dared. Love them or hate them in period, one thing is clear today: the best Koenig cars are no longer footnotes — they’re collector-grade legends.

This 1978 Ferrari 512 BB Koenig is a perfect example. In fact, it is quite possibly the most complete and extreme Koenig-built 512 BB in existence. A true one-off, built in period by Koenig with a full widebody conversion and a factory-documented twin-turbo upgrade producing 653 horsepower. Certified by the original Koenig Certificate of Origin and supported by a remarkable file of history, service records, and publications, this car is the real deal.

Originally delivered in 1978 to a German industrialist via Ferrari’s Bolzano dealership, the car was sent to Koenig Specials in 1979. There, it received the first wave of upgrades: widebody panels, reworked suspension, Campagnolo wheels, and a 450 hp flat-12 fed by carburetors. Already it was faster and more aggressive than anything Ferrari was selling at the time. But the story didn’t stop there. In 1986, the engine was again upgraded by the power-wizards at Koenig. Stronger internals. Fuel injection. Two Rajay turbochargers. The result was 653 horsepower in a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive GT with no traction control and no electronic safety nets. It sounds completely unhinged — and frankly, it is. But that’s exactly what makes it so special.

After years on German and Spanish roads, the car found its way to Switzerland, where it was stored by a Ferrari dealership. Swiss emissions regulations meant it was never officially registered, but it was regularly driven on garage plates — most often on early morning runs through the Alps. Hardly a bad retirement. In 2013, the car changed hands again, this time to a British collector who saw its potential and wasn’t afraid of it. He sent it to Hoyle Fox, one of the UK’s leading Ferrari specialists, who spent five years meticulously bringing it to peak mechanical condition. From 2015 to 2020, everything was inspected, rebuilt, improved or refined. The stack of invoices reads like the owner’s manual to a proper restoration. The result? A twin-turbo Koenig that is not only terrifyingly fast, but also reliably usable. A rare combination.

The exterior is exactly what you’d hope for: Rosso Corsa paint with a deep shine, no corrosion, no drama. The widebody panels are straight, well-fitted and dry. Inside, the car surprises with unexpected comfort. Forget stripped-out racer — this Koenig features plush leather and suede seats, classic Veglia instrumentation, boost gauges discreetly integrated into the dash, and a neatly tucked-away fire system. It’s more gentleman’s express than wild-eyed track toy.

Documentation is a major strong point. Included are the original Koenig Certificate of Origin, a fully stamped Ferrari service book, factory manuals, all original booklets, detailed ownership records and a complete invoice file. The car has also been featured in Classic & Sports Car magazine and has been shown at the world renowned Salon Privé concours d’elegance, a true testament to the car’s exclusive and elusive character.

On the road, the Koenig delivers exactly what you'd hope for — and more. The clutch demands real input, the steering communicates everything, and the ride is firm yet surprisingly supple. But once the turbos come alive, the character shifts from intense to absolutely ferocious. Acceleration is instant, raw, and addictive. This isn’t subtle. It isn’t easy. And that’s precisely the charm. It’s driving in its most mechanical, focused, and rewarding form. Every gear change, every corner, every surge of boost reminds you: this is what a supercar is supposed to feel like. Your palms will sweat, your pulse will rise — and you’ll want to do it all over again.

For serious collectors, this is a rare opportunity. Not just to acquire a Koenig Ferrari, but the Koenig Ferrari. A one-off build with bulletproof provenance, outstanding mechanical condition, and a level of presence that few other cars — even from Maranello — can match.
