Vehicle Description

Im Jahr 1990 stellte BMW den E31 vor, die erste Generation der 8er-Reihe, die ein indirekter Nachfolger des 6er-BMW war. Als zweitüriges Coupé mit V8- oder V12-Motor war der 8er ein Grand Tourer, den BMW von 1990 bis 1999 baute. Im Vergleich zur 6er-Reihe galt die 8er-Reihe als eine völlig neue Modellklasse mit deutlich höherer Leistung und höherem Preis. Die 8er-Reihe wurde im September 1989 auf der IAA in Frankfurt vorgestellt. Als erstes Straßenfahrzeug, mit einem V12-Motor und einem 6-Gang-Schaltgetriebe war der 8er ein Meilenstein in der Geschichte von BMW. Aufgrund wirtschaftlicher Rückschläge brachte BMW eine seltene E31-Version mit kompletter M-Ausstattung auf den Markt. Nur 299 Exemplare wurden produziert.
